Stars, Stripes & Celebration – America’s Big 250th Birthday

Every year on 4th July, people across the United States celebrate Independence Day. The day marks the moment in 1776 when the American colonies declared their independence from Great Britain by adopting the Declaration of Independence. It is one of the country’s most important national holidays and celebrates freedom, unity and the nation’s history.

The Declaration of Independence was written mainly by Thomas Jefferson, with help from a committee that included John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livingston. It was adopted by the Continental Congress on 4th July 1776, setting out the colonies’ reasons for becoming an independent nation.

Independence Day is celebrated with colorful parades, community festivals, concerts, family picnics and spectacular fireworks displays. Many towns and cities hold fun events for all ages, bringing people together to enjoy food, music and entertainment while showing pride in their country.

This year’s celebrations are extra special as 2026 marks 250 years since the United States declared its independence. Known as the America 250 celebration, this historic milestone will be marked with even bigger events and commemorations across the country, making this Fourth of July a memorable occasion for millions of people.
