UIG contributing partner Underwood Archives offers researchers a vintage and historic glimpse into America’s past. The collection includes thousands of images of politicians, entertainers, and other notables from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Underwood archive offers a peak at the daily lives of Americans in years gone by, humorous images from a simpler time, and provocative images illustrating America’s wonderful and interesting history.
Hollywood, California: c. 1932.The dance team of Galante and Leonarda execute one of their “flight maneuvers” in their swing version of the rhumba. 
Las Vegas, Nevada: c. 1959. The strip with the Overland Hotel, Biff’s Las Vegas Club and the Golden Gate casino in the foreground. 
Montgomery, Alabama: 1956. Rosa Parks seated toward the front of the bus in Montgomery, Alabama. 
Oakland, California: c. 1969. A Black Panther rally against Safeway. 
Langley Field, Virginia: February 10, 1937. Nine Army Air Corps Martin B-10 bombers fly in a step down column over Langley Field on their way to Miami and Panama. 
New York: March 15, 1965. Civil rights marchers carrying a banner, “We march with Selma!” lead the way as 15,000 people parade down a Harlem Street. 
New York: c. 1933. Coney Island in Brooklyn thinks nothing of having 400,000 visitors on a weekend day. People in Manhattan can get to the beach and boardwalk for a 5 cent fare. 
Hollywood, California: September 2, 1952. Actors Bing Crosby and Bob Hope dance in kilts in a scene in their latest movie, “Road to Bali”. 
Normandy, France: July 11, 1944. An endless stream of supplies flow from the transports and landing craft at Normandy, headed for the front in France, while barrage balloons protect the craft from low flying enemy planes. 
Los Angeles, California: June, 1937. Champion divers preparing to participate in the National Aquatic Show to be held at the Olympic Swimming Stadium in LA. 
San Francisco, California: 1931. Patrons at a speakeasy in San Francisco. 
California: c. 1955. A comical photograph of a press photographer with lots of equipment and wearing oversize dark glasses 
New York: May 8, 1945. Three sailors gaze up on V-E Day at the Statue of Liberty after it was illuminated for the first time, except for a brief period on D-Day, since the Pearl Harbor attack. 
San Francisco, California: c.1936. Fishermen on Baker Beach enjoy the view of the Golden Gate Bridge under construction. 
New York: March 25, 1946. The first convening of the United Nations Security Council in New York. 
United States: c. 1928. A Fanchon and Marco production number. 
New York: c. 1930. A Jewish man buying kosher wine for sacramental purposes. 
England: c. 1900. A passel of men on their way pedaling a vehicle called the Dunlop Express. 
Switzerland: c. 1935. A lovely, sweeping ride down a high mountain. 
Washington, DC: June 14, 1963. Attorney General Robert Kennedy addresses civil rights demonstrators in front of the Justice Department today. 
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma: October 18, 1958. Benedictine Sisters at the Christ King Convent in Oklahoma City try their hand at the hula hoop craze that is sweeping the country. 
Pasadena, California: 1943. These two chihuahuas have been doing this stunt for years. Goldie, (the pushee), and Siver, (the pusher) are respectively 13 and 15 years old, and it never fails to earn them treats from passerbys. 
New York: 1962. Group of women from Women Strike for Peace holding placards relating to the Cuban missile crisis and to peace. 
New York: 1949. The auditorium of Radio City Music Hall in Rockefeller Center with a capacity audience of 6,200 persons watching the celebrated Rockettes.
