Backlight – Shadows and Silhouettes

By Francesca Lungarotti

Backlight can be accidental (often the perfect mistake) or absolutely desired and studied. As an editor I find that the images that have this technique or ‘error’ offer a dreamlike vision that is open to many meanings and possibilities of use.

Silhouettes offer a different world of photography where imagination is the key to reading the image. Shadows are projections of the subjects and suggest other interpretations always aimed at the imagination.

Backlight provides contours and boundaries showing the subject or other items for the space it occupies.
